Steiner 四元系

Steiner 四元系是一種 Steiner 系 S(t=3,k=4,v), 其中 S 是一個 v-集，B 是 k-集的集合，使得 S 的每個 t-子集都包含在 恰好一個 B 的成員中。Barrau (1908) 證明了 S(3,4,8) 的唯一性，

Fitting (1915) 隨後構造了迴圈系 S(3,4,26) 和 S(3,4,34)，Bays 和 de Weck (1935) 證明了至少存在一個 S(3,4,14)。Hanani (1960) 證明了 S(3,4,v) 存在的 必要 和 充分 條件是 v=2 或 4 (mod 6)。

階數為 8、10、14、16、... 的非同構 Steiner 四元系的數目分別為 1、1、4 (Mendelsohn 和 Hung 1972)、1054163 (Kaski et al. 2006)、... (OEIS A124119)。
