迷宮，也稱為 labyrinth，是一組通道（帶有不可滲透的牆壁）。迷宮的目標是從一個給定的點開始，找到一條穿過通道到達第二個給定點的路徑。
上面展示的是希臘皮洛斯出土的泥土會計板的背面（Wolfram 2002，p. 43）。傳說它是克里特島克諾索斯宮殿中牛頭怪住所迷宮的平面圖，由代達羅斯設計。也有人說它是特洛伊城的標誌 - 或者可能是其部分城牆的平面圖（Wolfram 2002，p. 873）。
上述圖案（無論是方形還是圓形）以非常小的變化出現在世界各地的許多地方 - 從克里特島的硬幣，到龐貝城的塗鴉，到沙特爾大教堂的地板，到秘魯的雕刻，到土著部落的標誌。可能在三千年的時間裡，它一直是迷宮最常用的單一設計（Wolfram 2003，p. 873）。
